We were tired of playing musical chairs between our dining table and breakfast bar, but we really didn't want to add more chairs for the kids to move about the kitchen and dining areas given the layout of those rooms. I finally realized what we were missing...a dining bench for the breakfast bar! No more chairs to move around, and we can seat our 3 kids comfortably there versus only 2 with chairs and tuck the entire bench under the bar when not in use. Now, for the first time in 8 years, our breakfast bar finally serves its full purpose and it's a very inviting place to sit.
The bench was easy to assemble and well-crafted with sturdy hardware, but it's not asthetically perfect. The top of the bench is finger-jointed, so don't expect a clean, butcher-block appearance like other fine wood furniture. Also, in one spot on the seating area, there's a duller finish, almost as if the bench wasn't sanded smooth so the poly didn't adhere as well. One rounded corner of the seat has some soft dents, but the poly is uniform and it's not super-noticeable.
Overall, for the price and function it serves with kids in the house, it's a good, solid bench, but it's not for those looking for the most beautiful craftsmanship. It suits our need!
