Best Value June 4, 2010 Tyrone Jenkins Best price I could find on the web. Works perfectly. Beats having to manually boil water or any other method of hot water dispensing.
Hot Pot June 1, 2010 Linda Miller (Melbourne, FL, US) This product is great for having boiling water available instantly for cooking and making tea or instant coffee or soups. I bought the biggest one with the electric dispenser because my previous pot was much smaller and needed refilling often. Also the vacuum seal wore out and it was very difficult to pump the water out. The heating element never failed however. This is my 4th hot water boiler, so I think I chose wisely.
Happy, but watch out for the steam on reboil May 29, 2010 L. Baxter (Minneapolis MN) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Having spent a couple of weeks in Japan, I fell in love with the idea of an always-on water heater. Has been great to have one at home, and a good one at that.
The only note I would add to previous comments is that the unit *does* kick off a LOT of steam during the boiling process. I originally put it on the kitchen counter, tucked back against the wall, based on earlier comments about there being little to no steam.
Oooooh. Wrong. About 20 minutes into the boil, I happened to pop into the kitchen to find water dripping off the underside of the overhanging cupboard, water running down the wall, etc. YIKES.
Like I said, the unit is a good one. Just be sure to pull it out to the edge of the countertop and spin it to face away from you during the boil stage (so the steam vent is out on the open edge of the counter), and you'll be good to go. After the boiling stage concludes, you can spin it around to face the correct direction and slide it back under the overhanging cabinetry. The little bit of steam it puts off while in a holding pattern is next to non-existent.
Should have bought this first. May 24, 2010 bef (Torrance, CA United States) I originally bought a Tatung THWP-4L for about $44 because it was on sale and was rated at 4 stars as opposed to the 5 star reviews for the Zojirushi which costs about 3 times the Tatung. I figured, how much difference does one star make? $44 down the drain, that's the difference.
The Tatung died after 5 months of use.
Here are some of the reasons why I like the CD-WBC40:
Slow dispensing mode.
5-star rating.
Power cord that doesn't easily fall off.
Coated interior (no rust so far. The Tatung was advertised as stainless steel but it started rusting and was hard to clean.
Large water level indicator. No more guessing to see if it was full without opening the lid.
Choice of temperatures.
Still working after 1 month of use.
PDF manuals available on the web so that I could read up about it before buying. Never did find a manual for the Panasonic which I also considered as a replacement.
Longer warranty than the others.
Scale buildup happened SO quickly! :( May 17, 2010 J. Hayes (USA) 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
I was really looking forward to owning this product. I did a lot of research and read a lot of reviews to make sure that it was a wise purchase. I understand the need to clean the product inside every so often, but there was significant white scale buildup that could not be removed with a magic eraser within the first couple of weeks of use! I don't know whether using bottled water would make this a non-issue, but it is annoying that the maintenance could have to be so frequent!
