Product Description
In the homespun days, food was usually fried in a big cast-iron metal pot. But modern times demand simpler solutions. The Presto GranPappy electric deep fryer fits on a countertop and is so easy to use. Just add oil, plug it in, and in 15 minutes it's heated up and ready to fry. Its sleek, black bucket shape matches form to function-- simple and classic. The GranPappy holds up to six cups of oil or three pounds of shortening, and it can accommodate up to six servings of food at a time. The internal thermostat keeps the oil at the optimum frying temperature. An accompanying scoop, slotted for draining, is for lifting food in and out or for turning food halfway through the cooking time. The power cord has a magnetic safety connection, so that if the unit is jostled during cooking, the cord will disconnect, shutting power off immediately. After straining the used oil, it can be poured back into the unit and stored, covered by the accompanying snap-on plastic lid. After frying, unplug the unit and allow it to cool completely before attempting to empty oil. Wash the GranPappy with warm, sudsy water and dry it thoroughly; it is not immersible. To preserve the nonstick finish, inside and out, do not use steel wool or harsh, abrasive cleansers. The Presto GranPappy measures 8 by 8-1/2 inches. Presto guarantees this product with a one-year limited warranty. A simple instruction and recipe sheet is enclosed. --Garland Withers

5 out of 5 stars Time for another one   July 24, 2010
James Rhodes (Houston)
I bought a GranPappy in '95 and it lasted 12 years until the heating element finally gave out. It cooked many many batches of buffalo wings and other things over the years, and always perfectly. I've tried the more complicated fryers with their fancy thermostats, lids, lift baskets, and other complicated and very hard to clean parts. One of them quit in less than 3 months of ownership. To be honest, I was glad it did. Forget that! Go simple! Get you a GranPappy. That's what I'm getting next.

5 out of 5 stars Best Deep Fryer Ever   July 14, 2010

Works great. Keeps oil at perfect temperature and uses very little oil. No basket to clean up either.

5 out of 5 stars cooking on the road   July 3, 2010

This fryer is perfect for two people on the road! It cooks wonderfully and the fact that I can use solid shorting in it means no oil spill in my 5th wheel camper. The compact size makes it easy to store in the limited cupboard space and the lid keeps the shorting clean while we are traveling. I would recommend this fryer to anyone for at home or at home cooking on the road!

5 out of 5 stars Can't live without my GranPappy!   June 7, 2010
Virginia G. Green (Oklahoma City, OK)
My husband is very picky about taco shells. He will not buy commercially prepared shells. He has to make his own shells, and for at least 15 years, we have used our GranPappy. Perfect size, perfect width, perfect depth of oil (we use Crisco). When my old unit failed to work recently, I shopped all available deep fryers. Too large, too shallow ... needed something that would do the job we need it for. I finally got online and ordered the good ole' GranPappy and this new one is a little bit more "luxurious" (nicer lid, handle). I occasionally use GranPappy for deep frying veggies in batter, but our main purpose are the wonderful taco shells. Can't live without my GranPappy! Ginny Green

5 out of 5 stars Great Product   April 27, 2010

This is our second GrandPappy Fryer. The previous one we replaced was very old and worked great until recently. No second thought about getting another.
