Product Description For mixing all the way to the bottom of deep pots or pitchers, its durable snap-in attachment can be immersed as far down as 8 inches. The blender's speed-control dial offers variable speeds ranging from nine (high) to one (low), while its power button allows for one-touch starting and stopping. Two ejector buttons, one on either side of the blender body, provide simple attachment removal. Other convenient features include quick and easy assembly and storage, a 5-foot extra-long power cord, and a comfortable, ergonomic, non-slip grip. A 3-cup blending beaker and sealing lid are included. For simple clean up, all attachments and accessories are dishwasher-safe and the smooth surface of the blender body is easy to wipe clean.

Quality Power Durable design - esp the bottom June 22, 2010 P. Cofrancesco (San Diego, CA USA) 06-22-2010: I purchased this unit a few days ago at the Target store in Poway, ca (even though the website claims it is not available in stores). It works great but has a few draw backs.
I've been using a Hamilton Beach "drink mixer" daily to make my protein shake for the last 9 years. The Hamilton mixer always worked well but several problems developed with the bottom half (the blade). The twist off groves broke, the shaft on the blade would get food stuck in it etc. The lesson I learned is that the motor will probably never fail (unless it is overheated or abused) but bottom half is the part most likely to fail.
PROS:
The KitchenAid gives you a solid high quality mixing blade and nice snap-on ejector that will probably last a lifetime. It works by pushing both buttons which will eject AND separate the bottom half. This directly addresses the weakest link. It is very powerful. I use it in the lowest setting for my drinks because otherwise it tends to spill. Bottom is more efficient than my old mixer at churning the mix - my shakes come out creamy vs lumpy and I don't have to go up and to get the lumps out. I just tilt it a little and it circulates and blends the entire drink.
CONS:
It is very tall which makes it a little awkward to use (I'm 5-10). For drink mixing it is way over powered making the unit larger, bulkier, heavier than it would otherwise be. The upside is it can be used for heavier tasks like potatoes, etc. It is very thick - most women would have trouble with the thickness, height and weight. It is intended that you hold on near the top where it is thinner - so women don't give up on this otherwise great quality and versatile product. Once you place it in the cup it doesnt seem as tall. The push button separator causes my drink to spill as it jerks it as I separate it. I think it will break in and get smoother overtime (I also use a glass jar which is much smaller than the plastic mixing cup).
TIP: I use a glass peanut butter jar - I like glass more than plastic because it never scratches and I get better mixing action because the container more closely matches the size of my drink. I never unplug the unit. I just separate the bottom, wash it, and toss it in the dish rack to dry. In general these mixers are way better than a blender because all you have to clean is the removable base and the cup - compared to dissembling a blender! If you blend things a lot buy this unit. If you are not sure there are plenty of $20 units for you to use before committing to this excellent unit as it would be a shame for this to be left sitting in a drawer with other unused appliances.
Has the model changed? Can you use this to mix cake batter? May 30, 2010 charmedbeadedpurse (USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
It seems since this item was first reviewed back in 2007 (the featured **** review) that the model has changed. There are now 7 speeds as opposed to two? Has the issue with the food getting up into the cylinder been resolved, and it can be cleaned fully now with no food residue? Also is this unit too powerful for cake batters and other kinds of batters, such as cookies, bundt cakes, so-called "quick breads," waffles, things you don't want to drag out the hand or standing mixer for? Or is that over kill? Seems like this is a powerful mixer, is it TOO powerful for light cake batters? I'm picturing batter all over the ceiling. Any comments much appreciated before I spend the money on this. ;o)
Kitchen Aid hand blender May 8, 2010 Mae Reed (cape cod area Ma..usa) The hand blender is working out well for us. Heavy duty . Numerous speeds. It is a little on the heavy side to hold but that is not a real problem . Would say it was a good product.
Powerful, easy to use immersion blender April 3, 2010 Not my real name (San Francisco, CA) This blender is extremely powerful. There are nine power levels, and anything above 7 needs two hands to control the machine. It makes very quick work of soups and sauces, although like all hand held immersion blenders, the final product is not as smooth as you would get with a regular blender.
The blender is much larger than I expected: it's about 17 inches long when assembled, and weighs nearly 2 pounds. It appears to be very robust and well-made, although the clips that hold the blade attachment to the handle are small and plastic -- that may be a long term durability issue. The speed dial and on/off switch are well covered so that the handle is very easy to keep clean. The blade attachment is easily cleaned by rinsing under the tap. There is no cord storage: I wrap the cord around the handle and keep it in the mixing jar.
A couple of comments on usage:
1. If you're making soup, start off slowly on a low power until the veggies are pureed, then increase the speed to liquefy.
2. Make sure that whatever you're blending is at least a couple of inches deep - otherwise the blender will splatter the food all over the place
Hand held blender March 9, 2010 Rodney Harrington (rural Missouri) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This product from Amazon is as it was said to be and more. I have used it many times since I received it. It is powerful, has multiple speeds and is easy to use and clean. I'm pleased with it. The measuring and covered container that came with it is something I would not have known to buy but is very handy.
